How much does a website cost?

It’s the question all web designers /
developers / agencies
really dread being asked;
So how much does a website cost”? Not because we don’t
get excited at the prospect of working on a new project, not because
web designers would rather be off snowboarding than working on your website,
but simply because …it’s impossible to try and give anything like the short answer
that the potential customer is hoping for.

The honest answer is: “it depends, ..what sort of website do you want?

The Scope of a Website

Websites vary greatly in cost. Websites have different costs because no two websites are exactly the same. Websites vary massively in size, functionality and design from one to the next, so for a potential customer we need to establish the extent of ‘size, functionality and design’ in relation to their website. This information gathering process we cover extensively in our “Getting to know you” section.

How to get a Quote for Web Design

We have put together a Project Questionnaire that you can download and fill in. Just email the completed document back to us, or you can use our Contact Form to upload the document for our attention.

But what does a basic, very simple website cost?

This is usually the second question that a potential customer asks! More often than not, after the information gathering process, it turns out they aren’t wanting a basic, very simple website, and that their ambitions (and subsequent costs) are beyond ‘basic’, but we guess it lets them get a feel of entry point pricing.

These options below can be very useful for Small Business Customers who might just want to get themselves online with an initial presence, and later on scale up their size, functionality and design as part of a phase 2 development.

Basic Page Option

  • WordPress CMS Installation
  • Single Page setup
  • Standard Content of Text and Images
  • One Layout Design (Homepage)

Basic Site Option

  • WordPress CMS Installation
  • Maximum 10 Page setup
  • Standard Content of Text and Images
  • Two Layout Designs (Homepage and Standard page)
  • Contact Form

Both options above use the WordPress CMS as the method by which a customer updates their website content for themselves. Layout designs will be provided in jpg format for approval before WordPress customisation begins.

Other cost considerations

You should budget for Domains and Hosting if you don’t already have them (prices available on request). Also consider the cost for images that you might want to use on your site, so budget for Stock Photography costs too.

An article we wrote about using images on your website may be useful reading.

So what would a websites like (example.com) cost?

This is another question that potential customers always seem to ask us! Using an example website is a great way of getting a quote. If you find a website using features or elements similar to the ones you have in mind for your own website, or designs and layouts that work in a certain way, then tell us the URL(s) of the website(s) and we can quote based on examples.

Almost all of our customers come to us with needs and requirements that go beyond the basics, we have many customers websites on show in our Portfolio and News sections that are packed with wonderful features and functionality and are great examples of what’s possible, so feel free to go and get some inspiration from them, but because we value client confidentiality so highly, we can never directly reveal budgets or disclose the final costs of our customers websites.

And Finally …

We understand that getting a quote can be quite daunting, we try and keep technical jargon down to a minimum and we try and explain The Key Stages in a Web Project up front before you even agree to any costs.

If you contact us about a quote you’ll only find yourself on our mailing list if you’ve specifically asked to be on it, and there’s no hard sell - EVER!
